Stay hydrated this summer

Whether you are still working from home or you have gone back to your air conditioned office, to remain productive, motivated and healthy at work you must make sure you stay hydrated. Experts suggest you should drink a minimum of 8 glasses of water a day to stay hydrated and even more during hot weather.

Now we know this is easier said than done; busy schedules can make it hard to remember to have the recommended amount, and some types of professions can make it harder to access water regularly or to be able to keep a bottle nearby – so here are some top tips for you to bear in mind:

BRAIN POWER

Your brain is mostly water. By staying hydrated throughout your working day, you will:

  • Maintain your concentration.
  • Improve your creativity.
  • Balance your mood and emotions.
  • Increase the blood flow and oxygen.
  • Reduce stress.
  • Be more productive.

All adding up to a better working day for both you, your employer and your team!

Top Tip: To ensure you are hydrated before you get to work… start your day with a large glass of water before you eat breakfast.

BOOST YOUR ENERGY

Whether your job involves you sitting at a desk for 8 hours a day or being on your feet you will still need a lift during your working day.

Drinking water throughout the day gives you a boost in energy by:

  • Flushing out unwanted toxins in your body.
  • Improving digestion.
  • Enhance your immune system.

Top Tip: When visiting the toilet, Keep an eye on the colour.  Anything darker than pale straw, then get yourself a refill.

 

HEALTHY MUSCLES

Water carries oxygen to the cells of your body, including those of your muscles.  Being well hydrated enables your muscles to work longer and harder before their feel tired, and this will help you build muscle.

Top Tip: Muscle Cramps are a sign you are dehydrated; especially common when exercising in hot weather.

PUTTING GOOD HABITS INTO PRACTICE 

Drinking enough water is all about establishing a habit until it becomes second nature.  There are several things you can do to increase your daily water routine:

KEEP A WATER BOTTLE AT WORK

Take a water bottle with you before you leave the house for the day. Pop in some ice to keep it cool and make sure you top it up as often as possible. 

USE A HYDRATION WATER APP

Here in the office, our recruitment consultants have trialled 3 free iPhone apps this week.

Our favourite was Daily Water – Drink Reminder on the iPhone App Store.  It is very simple and literally just reminds you to drink a glass of water and tracks your progress.

LIVEN UP PLAIN WATER

Liven up your water with fruit. Infusing fruit into a large jug or your water bottle will not only make it taste delicious it will count towards one of your 5 a day!
